She was the widow of the late Jacob B. Wertz, who died December 8, 1906. Mrs. Wertz was born near Spruce Creek in Huntingdon county, April 28, 1849, and thus was nearing her 59th birthday. She was reared at Piney Creek and after her marriage in 1870, she resided at Alexandria and Shoenberger until 1890 when she came to Tyrone. Her illness, nervous prostration, extended through twelve years; during the last six years she has been helpless and for the past four weeks she suffered greatly; her end was hastened by a spinal spasm several days ago. She is survived by the following children: Harry C., of Pitcairn; Jacob W., Bellwood; and Solomon G., Mary L., Dessa M., Janetta, Sara E., and B. Pearl, of Tyrone. The following brothers and sisters survive: Calvin Wagner, Wertz; Mrs. Catharine Clabaugh, Connellsville; Henry Wagner, Oklahoma; Mrs. Dasia Shultzabarger and William Wagner, Altoona; Mrs. Anna Depp, Mrs. Dessa Hoover and Geo. Wagner, Williamsburg; John and Grant Wagner, Clappertown. She is also survived by six grandchildren; two of whom lived with her, Vernon and Donald Wertz. She was a faithful and consistent member of the first English Lutheran church and the Dorcas society. During the time of her sickness, though it was for years, she was always cheerful, patient and thoughtful of others. The loss to family of mother and to church of worker is great; her Christian life was one serenely peaceful and by kind Providence so also was her death. The funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 o'clock in the Lutheran church. Rev. E. M. Morgan, her pastor, and Rev. F. L. Bergatresser, her former pastor, will officiate. Interment in Tyrone cemetery. The Tyrone Daily Herald, March 21, 1908 This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/
