All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ RETIRED LOCAL TEACHER DIES IN JUNIATA Miss Vara Montrose Wertz, 72, well known retired Juniata school teacher residing at 512 Eighth avenue, Juniata, died unexpectedly at her home at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Miss Wertz retired in 1933 after having taught in the Noble school for 21 years. She was born near Hollidaysburg on Jan 28, 1870, a daughter of Philip and Anna Mary (Ehrenfeld) Wertz. Miss Wertz was a graduate of the Lock Haven Normal school. Surviving are two sisters, Salome, at home and Mrs. Elsie Isenberg of Northville, Mich., and by a brother Martin, of Pontiac, Mich. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Annie Edgely of Altoona and Mrs. Dessa Bream of Biglerville. Miss Wertz had been an active member of Trinity Lutheran church in Juniata for many years and served as superintendent of the beginners department. Friends will be received at the Korns funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening.
