Wertz, who died at 9:30 o'clock on Monday morning of consumption, having lingered about two years, six months of which time he was entirely helpless, took place Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. The funeral services were conducted by Dr. McMurray, assisted by Revs. Guyer and Bender. The casket containing the remains, of about forty or fifty pounds weight, was carried from his late residence on Colfax street to the church by the following pallbearers: Monroe Calderwood, Frank Bell, Samuel Nowlin, Samuel Marks, John Stacy and Peter Fry. The funeral was largely attended. Deceased had been a consistent member of the Methodist church for some twenty-five years, during which time he at various times filled the office of Sunday school superintendent, class leader and member of the official board. Mr. Wertz's life has been that of the most exemplary Christian, whose example others will do well to imitate both as regard his social and Christian graces. Mr. Wertz had for some sixteen years been associated with the firm of Beyer, Guyer & Co. He leaves a wife and family of six children, the oldest 16 and the youngest 5 years of age, to mourn his death. Though his suffering was terrible he remained sensible to the last, conversing in his usual intelligent way to friends. He leaves his family in comfortable circumstances. He had an insurance policy on the New York life insurance company of New York.
