Death of a Respected Resident of Sinking Valley. On Wednesday afternoon at fifteen minutes of 2 o'clock Mr. John W. Westley died at his home in Sinking Valley. He contracted a severe cold while at work which culminated in pneumonia, and this latter disease was the cause of his death. Deceased was an honest Christian man, respected by all who knew him and his death is sincerely mourned. Mr. Westley was born in Berks county on the 22d of January, 1842, and in 1869 became a resident of Blair county. For three years he lived in Antis township and for four in Logan township, removing to Sinking valley in April, 1875, living there continuously until his death. In his youth he connected himself with the Lutheran church and at the time of his death was a leading member of the congregation of that denomination in Sinking Valley. To mourn their loss he leaves his devoted wife, Mrs. Mary Westley, and five children - Laura, William, Annie, Harvey and Bertie - all of whom reside at the home of the parents. He also leaves a brother, Henry W. Westley, of Beckersville, Berks county. The deceased was also a nephew of John B. Westley, of this city. He was a good husband and father, and in his demise the community in which he resided lost an excellent citizen. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Thursday, January 8, 1891
