At 8 o'clock last evening Joseph Wichum, a well known resident of the Eighth ward, died at his home, 501 Sixth avenue, of a stroke of paralysis and diseases incident to old age. Deceased was born at Shaikan, Saxony, Germany, March 21, 1822. He came to American in --?-- and settled in New York. Later he migrated to Philadelphia and then to [Pet]ersburg, Huntingdon county. He came to Altoona from Alexandria in March, 1870, and has resided here ever since. He entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad company as a cabinet maker, which position he held until eight years ago, when he retired from active duty on account of poor health. Mr. Wichum was one of the many retired from duty by the rules of the pension system introduced recently by the Pennsylvania Railroad company. On August 3, 1856, at Alexandria, he married Elizabeth Ehman, and to this union three children were born; Leonard, John and George. The latter two, with his wife, survive. He was a member of St. James German Lutheran church and the Pennsylvania Railroad relief association. He was a man of excellent character and highly esteemed by all who knew him. The funeral will take place Monday afternoon; services at the house at 2 o'clock by Rev. C. L. Boecele; interment in Oak Ridge cemetery. Morning Tribune, Saturday, January 20, 1900 LOCAL BREVITIES. The funeral of Joseph Wichum will take place this afternoon from his late residence, 501 Sixth avenue. The services will be held at 2.30 o'clock and will be conducted by his pastor, Rev. C. L.
