He had been spreeing for a couple of weeks, and his constitution was quite shattered. He had stopped drinking the day before, and was taking medicine to brace up his shattered constitution and enable him to sleep. Sunday evening Esquire Leet held an inquest on the body, and the jury found that they believed he died from the effects of intemperance. Who sold this poor, unfortunate, but honest and kind-hearted man, the fatal poison? If the violaters of the law in Shantytown, or elsewhere, where he procured it, should get their dues, the penitentiary would have more inmates. The Register, Hollidaysburg, Pa., Wednesday, October 1, 1873
