A freight train was lying on the north track, and it is said that one of the crew warned Wilkie of approaching danger, but no attention was apparently paid the warming. There is a sharp curve where the accident occurred, and in an instant the passenger engine was upon him. He was hit and knocked down the south bank. Wilkie was picked up and brought to this city on second section of day express and taken to the hospital. All efforts to rally him proved unavailing and he died twenty minutes after being admitted to the institution. Death was caused by concussion of the brain. He had on his person 24 cents, a pipe, a package of tobacco, a comb and a German Testament. In this latter was written the name of Frederick Wilkie and it is supposed to be his. Coroner Poet was notified but did not deem it necessary to hold an inquest. The body was turned over to the poor authorities and to-day will be sent to Philadelphia to one of the medical colleges. It was prepared by Undertaker Arthur and Steward Young was telephoned regarding it. It was decided by the latter to send it to Philadelphia. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Friday, February 13, 1891
