Winter, wife of Arthur E. Winter of 1426 Thirteenth avenue and a lifelong resident of Altoona, died at her home at 1.38 o'clock this morning after an extended illness. Her condition had been regarded as critical for the past several days. She was born in Altoona, a daughter of Ludwig and Mary (Spangenberg) Kiefer, and was united in marriage with Mr. Winter in the Christ Reformed church by Rev. Warren J. Johnson, then pastor of the church. Mrs. Winter was widely traveled, having accompanied her husband to 20 Rotary International conventions over a period of years, to Europe, Africa, South America, the Hawaiian islands and to Alaska, as Mr. Winter served as delegate of the Altoona Rotary club to the assemblies. During the war years Mr. and Mrs. Winter traveled extensively in the United States, visiting every state in the Union and making extensive trips on the Mississippi river. Surviving are her husband, one brother and one sister, Dr. Herman E. Kiefer of Burlington, N.J., and Mrs. Carrie Wetzler of the city. Mrs. Winter was a member of the Broad Avenue Presbyterian church.
