Wissinger died at the home of his brother, George B.* Wissinger, Maple avenue, between Twenty-fifth and Twenty-sixth streets, some time between 3 and 5 o'clock yesterday morning. A companion with whom he was sleeping found him dead at 5 o'clock. Coroner McCartney, who was notified early in the morning of the death, went to the house and gave the cause of death as exposure. The relatives of the dead man ascribed his demise as being due to heart trouble, with which the deceased had had been afflicted for some time past. The body was taken to the undertaking rooms of Mr. Joseph Stevens, Eighth avenue near Seventeenth street, prepared for burial and taken to the home of a son at Oak avenue and Thirtieth street. Deceased was born in Somerset county, February 22, 1847, and was 56 years and 9 months old. He came to Altoona when a boy and had lived in this vicinity for the past thirty years. Besides his wife, Mrs. Julia Wissinger, he is survived by six children: Messrs. C. A., C. B., and W. G., Misses Cora and Alice at home and Mrs. Nettie Morris. Wissinger, 2920 Oak avenue, to-morrow afternoon. Services will be conducted at the house at 2 o'clock. Interment will be made in Oak Ridge cemetery. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Monday, November 23, 1903 * George B. should be George M., for McCelland. James B. Wissinger was the son of George W. Wissinger and Lydia Byers (Boyers). James is not mentioned in the 1850, 1860 or 1870 census of his family in Cambria county, PA. He was also known as "Joe and Joseph." Based on his age and the census records, it is believe that he was listed as Josiah Wissinger or Wisenger on the above three census records. Place of burial needs to be verified - Stevens Mortuary informed me that he was buried at Carson Valley Cemetery.
