WISSINGER Walter James Wissinger, 93, San Diego, formerly of Altoona, died Friday, June 25, 1999, at Alvarado Convalescent and Rehabilitation Hospital, California, following an extended illness. He was born in Altoona, the son of Walter G. and Bertha May Wissinger. He married Kathleen Foust. Mr. Wissinger a retired plumber and had worked for Convair. He worked as an underground water resources engineer overseas and as a civilian employee of the Armed Forces during World War II, building bases overseas. Surviving are his wife; son, Allen R. of San Diego; a daughter, Roberta L. Powers of San Diego; three sisters: Audrey G. Burchfield of Altoona and Helen M. Luckner, and Shirley A. Ulrich both of San Diego; a brother, Donn E. of Escondido, Calif.; 13 grand children; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two daughters: Michele E. Witkoff and Marjorie A. Hunter. There will be no viewing. Arrangements by Caring Cremation, San Diego. Born in Altoona, PA 20 February 1906, the 3rd child of 15 children of Walter G. & Bertha May Wissinger. Mr. Wissinger was a retired entrepreneur, plumber, and Convair employee. A World traveler, he worked in Africa during WWII and as an underground water resources engineer in Bogota, Columbia, Saudi Arabia, and Ankara, Turkey. Predeceased by daughters Michele E. Witkoff & Marjorie A. Hunder of San Diego, 10 brothers & sisters. Survived by wife, Kathleen Wissinger, son Col. (Ret.) Allen R. Wissinger, daughter, Roberta L. Walter was extremely proud of his Wissinger Heritage which he could trace back to 1620 at Mittle Ramstadt, Barvaria, Germany.
