GEORGE WITMER.

  George Witmer, a former resident of this city and a patrolman on the Altoona 
police force under Mayor Hoyer and Mayor Walker, died at his home, Elm Creek, 
Neb., on Christmas, December 25.  The news was received yesterday by his 
sister, Mrs. J. C. Gorsuch, of 1232 Thirteenth avenue.  Deceased was a man of 
middle age and while a member of the police force he proved efficient, 
courteous and ever alert to duty.  He left here to engage business in the 
west.  Many friends here will regret to learn of his demise.  Interment was 
made at Elm Creek.
