At 2:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon, John Witmer died at his home, 718 Eleventh avenue, from a complication of diseases. Deceased was born at Shippensburg, Cumberland county, 55 years ago. He was twice married, his second wife and four children surviving. The children are William, of Pittsburg; Grace, George and Wilkes, of this city. One brother, Harry, of Nebraska, and a sister living in Shippensburg, also survive. Deceased was a soldier in the late war, having been a member of company K, One Hundred and First regiment, Pennsylvania volunteers; was a member of Post 468, Grand Army of the Republic, and of the Chestnut Avenue M. E. church. Services will be held at the late residence on Sunday evening. The funeral will take place on Monday morning, to leave the house in time for the 7:15 train for Shippensburg, where the interment will be made. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., Saturday, March 12, 1892
