Wolf, died at his home, 1617 Thirteenth street yesterday morning at 10.55 o'clock following an attack of pneumonia. Mr. Wolf was taken ill on Saturday, Oct. 12. He had been at the store throughout the day and when he went home in the evening there were the usual symptoms of the influenza which malady quickly developed. His condition did not become serious, however, until Thursday of last week when pneumonia developed and he grew worse very rapidly until the final summons came this morning. Charles Eugene Wolf was the youngest of six sons of Adam J. and Elizabeth Wolf and was born in Hollidaysburg Oct. 28, 1864. His father was a leading furniture merchant of the county capital and Charles grew up in the business, either in association with his father or with his older brothers. He came to Altoona when he was 12 years old and was actively engaged in the hardware business here until 1900, when he retired from active participation in this line. About the time he became a silent partner in the City Furniture company and was largely instrumental in the erection of the magnificent big business block which has since been the home of the firm. In 1914, he became the sole owner of the City Furniture company and continued in its active management until his death. Mr. Wolf had various other business interests in the county. He was interested in the real estate business and was the owner or part owner of another Eleventh avenue store and valuable property in the city. He was a man of the highest integrity in all his business relations and a public spirited citizen, ready at all times to do his part in promoting the welfare of the community and its people. He was married in 1892 to Annie C., daughter of the late A. J. Anderson, by whom he is survived, with these children: George A., who has been associated of [sic] the store; John J., in the officers' material school, conducted by the United States naval reserves in the University of Pennsylvania; Herbert T., in the motor mechanics school at Newark college, Newark, Del., and Marjorie E. and Dorothy S., both attending school at Seton Hill academy, Greensburg. He is also survived by two brothers, Salem J., who is engaged in the hardware business in this city, and A. R., also of this city. He was a member of St. John's Catholic church. The funeral will take place on Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock and will be private. Friends will please omit flowers. Altoona Times, Altoona, Pa., Tuesday Morning, October 22, 1918
