All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ ARMSTRONG SALYARDS WOODS, Veteran lumberman and raftsman on the Susquehanna river, died at the Altoona hospital on Sunday evening at 6.50 o'clock of a complication of diseases incident to old age. He was admitted to the hospital on Sept. 19, following his being in ill health during the past summer. He resided with his daughter, Mrs. Winifred McCracken, wife of F. V. McCracken of 101 East Willow avenue. He was a resident of this city for the past nineteen years. He lived retired. He was born Dec. 18, 1843, at LaJose, Clearfield county, the son of Benjamin and Rachael Woods, deceased, and for many years he was a raftsman and later a pilot on the Susquehanna river. He is survived by his widow, Lottie, and one daughter, Mrs. McCracken of this city; also by two brothers, James of Clearfield and Edmund of Altoona, and three sisters, Mrs. Catherine Strook of DuBois, Mrs. Elizabeth Goss of Grampian and Mrs. Nan McGarvey of Clearfield. He was a member of the First Evangelical church of this city. The funeral will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the daughter's residence. Rev. C. D. Fewterbaugh to have charge.
