Friday evening about eight o'clock David Porter Woomer, a Bald Eagle Valley freight brakeman, was the victim of an accident which caused his death at two o'clock next morning. The train on which he was a brakeman and Stewart Cowan, conductor, left Tyrone yard in the afternoon about five o'clock, and when it reached Port Matilda it was about eight o'clock and consequently very dark. Mr. Woomer attempted to walk over the train to the caboose, but by some unavoidable accident he fell down between two cars onto the rails and was run over. He was not killed instantly and was picked up and brought to Tyrone where he was given skillful medical attention but to no purpose, for about 2 o'clock Saturday morning he passed away. He was not injured about the head or body, but both his legs below the knee were terribly mutilated and it is supposed he died from loss of blood. The remains were given in charge of Undertaker J. H. Burley, who prepared them for burial. The deceased was the son of Henry Woomer and wife, of Woomer's Settlement, a short distance northwest of Bald Eagle, and was between twenty-three and twenty-four years of age at the time of his sad death. He was boarding with John Priest, on Main street, until quite recently when he went to board with Miss Nancy Woodring, of East Tyrone. He is a cousin of Nathaniel Woomer, who was killed at McCann's crossing on the T. & C. railroad on February 14, last. His untimely death is not only a sad blow to his parents, both of whom survive him, but to all his many friends and relatives. He also leaves six brothers and two sisters, viz: Andrew, William and Thomas, who live at home with their parents; Jerry and Samuel, of Osceola; Harry who lives in Stony Point; Mrs. Samuel Harty, of north of East Tyrone, and Miss Joanna Woomer, of Penn'a. Furnace. The remains were taken to the home of the deceased's father Saturday afternoon from which place the funeral occurred on Monday morning at 10.30 o'clock, the interment taking place in the Bald Eagle cemetery.
