All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _________________________________________ Ira Foster Woomer Well-Known Brakeman Died In Altoona Hospital The very sudden passing away of Foster Woomer in the Altoona Hospital on Saturday evening at 9:45 o'clock of hemorrhages, was a distinct shock not only to his family, but his many friends and neighbors in upper Bald Eagle Valley. Mr. Woomer became ill suddenly while at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Beckwith, at Port Matilda. He was brought to his home at Bald Eagle and then taken to the Altoona Hospital in the local ambulance. He died shortly after being admitted to the institution. Ira Foster Woomer was born at Bald Eagle, November 27, 1871, the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Woomer. On May 22, 1901, at Port Matilda, he was united in marriage with Miss Dora E. Welsh who, with these daughters and sons survive his passing: Mrs. E. R. Beckwith, Port Matilda; Mrs. Edwin Ginter, Robert L. Woomer, Malcolm L. Woomer of Bald Eagle and Paul L. Woomer of Buffalo, New York. Eleven grandchildren and these sisters and brothers also survive: Mrs. Catharine Summers, Mrs. Sharer Daugherty of Clearfield; Mrs. Harry Bryan and T. B. Woomer of Tyrone. Mr. Woomer had many years service as a freight trainman with the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, first as a brakeman, then a flagman and lastly a conductor. He was a faithful employee working steadily at his chosen occupation and at the time of his passing was almost due for retirement. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. Funeral services will be held at the Bald Eagle Methodist Church on Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock conducted by Reverend William Dysart and Reverend Mr. Thomas.
