Down through the years he grew into boyhood, young manhood and then to old age and when the summons came to him this morning at 2.17 o'clock, he was waiting and prepared for the change that took place. He was a credit to his parents as he always endeavored to live an upright life. Early in life he with other christian men and women at Bald Eagle were instrumental in erecting the Bald Eagle church and was active in all branches of the church work, serving as a member of the official board, class leader and Sunday school superintendent. His religion was real and meant a lot to him as was evidenced when he was going through the Valley of the Shadow of Death. When the Civil war occurred, he laid aside the plow and farming implements and enlisted in the cause that meant the preservation of the Union. His war record is one that his sons and daughters, grandchildren and all who come after him may well feel proud of. After the war he settled again on his farm and up until thirteen years ago, followed the honorable pursuits of the tiller of the soil, when he retired and spent the balance of his life, happily and contentedly with his children. Joseph Woomer was born at Bald Eagle, November 25, 1836, the son of George and Mary Woomer. On August 19, 1858 he was united in holy marriage with Ann Elizabeth Woomer, in Tyrone, by Rev. R. W. Black. Mrs. Woomer preceded him to the grave, September 7, 1912. These sons and daughters survive: Mrs. Almira Nearhoof, Mrs. Harry White, Mrs. Harry Bryan, Blair Woomer, all of Tyrone; Foster Woomer of Vail; Mrs. H. B. Summers and Mrs. Sharar Daugherty of Clearfield. Mr. Woomer was the last member of a large family. On Monday afternoon, after a prayer at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry Bryan, 317 Seventeenth street, where he passed away this morning, the funeral cortege will leave for Bald Eagle Methodist church, at three o'clock, where at three-thirty, services will be conducted by the Rev. Mr. Dysart and Rev. Gordon A. Williams. Interment at Bald Eagle. Tyrone Daily Herald, Tyrone, Pa., Saturday, July 3, 1926
