East Freedom Woman is Called by Death MRS. CATHERINE DODSON, widow of T. Emory Dodson, died at her home in East Freedom yesterday. Mr. Dodson, whom she married Feb. 10, 1891, died in 1951. She was born in Greenfield Township April 25, 1873, a daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Glass) Yingling, and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church, Newry, and the Altar and Rosary society. Surviving are six children, Mrs. Mary Diehl of Newry, David L., Joseph, Leo B., Theodore and Mrs. Nellie Tomlinson, all of East Freedom; 35 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, one sister and one brother, Mrs. Mary Powers of Bellwood and Charles of East Freedom. Friends will be received at the home after 7 o'clock this evening. Altoona Mirror 7-10-57 Aged Resident Dies at East Freedom Home T. EMORY DODSON, aged 82, a life-long resident of East Freedom and a retired gang foreman for the Pennsylvania Railroad company, died at his home at 5:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon. He had served for 22 years as secretary of the Freedom township school board. Mr. Dodson was born at East Freedom July 8, 1869, a son of Jacob and Hannah (Ickes) Dodson, and married Catherine Yingling Feb. 10, 1891, their 60th wedding anniversary being celebrated this year. Mr. Dodson retired from the railroad company service in October, 1937, after 39 years. Surviving are his wife, seven children, Warren P., David L., Joseph E., Leo B., Theodore R., and Mrs. Nellie Tomlinson, all of East Freedom, and Mrs. Mary Diehl of Newry; 35 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two brothers and one sister, Harry J. of East Freedom, Alex and Mrs. Ella Weyandt, both of Claysburg. Two children, Clair and Mrs. Helen Feathers, preceded him in death. Mr. Dodson was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church, Newry, and of the Maccabees. WARREN PAUL DODSON of East Freedom, died at his home at 12:55 o'clock yesterday noon after two years' illness. He was born in Somerset Apr 5, 1893, a son of Thomas and Catherine (Yingling) Dodson, but had lived in East Freedom from infancy. Mr. Dodson was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church, Newry and had served as a rural mail carrier for more than 40 years. He was a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers' association. His wife, Mrs. Minnie (Crawford) Dodson, died March 6, 1946. Surviving are the following children: Thomas, Margaret, Roger, Eleanor, Pauline, Delores, Shirley, and Helen; 17 grandchildren and six brothers and sisters, Joseph, David, Leo, Theodore, Mrs. Mary Diehl and Mrs. Nellie Tomlinson. Dodson, died at her home in East Freedom yesterday afternoon at 12:50 o'clock following an extended illness. She was a daughter of Jesse and Margaret (Miller) Crawford and was born at Duncansville on Dec 12, 1896 and was united in marriage with Mr. Dodson on Jan 5, 1916. Surviving are the husband and these children: Melvin of Newry, Mrs. Chauncy Claar of East Freedom, Roger S. of Orange, Calif., Sister Mary Rita of New York, Mrs. Joseph Hamilton of Roaring Spring and Pauline, Shirley and Helen, all at home; eight grandchildren, her mother and these brothers and sisters: Mrs. James Miller of Martinsburg, Mrs. Edna Shaw of East Freedom, Mrs. Neil Hallaran of Lowell, Mass., Mrs. James Sharpless of Sandy Ridge, Fred Crawford, Mrs. George Furgeson, Mrs. John Hartman and Mrs. Thomas Ridenour and Jesse Crawford, all of Duncansville. He was born on June 12, 1895 at East Freedom, a son of Emory and Catherine Yingling Dodson. He was married to Grace Shaffer in 1915. He is survived by his wife and the following children; James, Mary Jane, Thelma, Ira, Iva Jean and Peggy, all at home. He also leaves his parents and the following brothers and sisters: Warren, David, Joseph, Leo, Theodore, Mrs. Ira Diehl, Mrs. Harry Feathers and Mrs. Robert Tomlinson, all of East Freedom. Dodson, 95, of East Freedom died at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Oct 19, 1988, at the home of her daughter, Mary Jane Gates in East Freedom, following as extended illness. She was born Sept 25, 1893, in Kladder Station, Blair Twp., the daughter of Lloyd and Catherine (McGraw) Shaefer, and in April 1915 in Cumberland Md., married Clair A. Dodson, who died March 8, 1937. Surviving are five children: James L. of Newry, Mary Jane Gates of East Freedom, Iva Jean Johnston of Hollidaysburg, Margaret C. Roudabush of Claysburg and Thelma R. Bechtel of Altoona; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Mary C. Decker of East Freedom. Mrs. Dodson was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, East Freedom and its Ladies Aid Society. She was also a member of the East Freedom Firehall Ladies Auxiliary. MARY DIEHL of Newry, died at 8:40 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 1972, in Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring, after an extended illness. She was born in East Freedom on May 9, 1897, a daughter of Emory and Catherine (Yingling) Dodson and Oct. 6, 1920 married Ira Diehl in St. Patrick's Catholic church, Newry. Surviving are her husband and a foster daughter, Mrs. Rita Booth of Avinas Italy, and these brothers and sisters: Joseph, Leo, Theodore and Mrs. Nellie Thomlinson of East Freedom. Altoona Mirror 5-21-1972 IRA J. DIEHL, 93, of Newry died at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug 15, 1986, in Altoona Hospital, following an extended illness. Known as Ike, Mr. Diehl retired as a welder from the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1957, after 42 years' service. He was born Dec 12, 1892, in Puzzletown, the son of Adam and Mary (Moyer) Diehl, and Oct 6, 1920 in Newry, married Mary R. Dodson, who died May 20, 1972. Surviving are a niece, Rita F. Jones of Pleasantville, NJ, who was raised in the home and three grandchildren. Mr. Diehl was a a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church, Newry, Holy Name Society and Hollidaysburg Knights of Columbus. He has served on Newry Borough Council. DODSON, a resident of East Freedom, died unexpectedly at 9 a.m. today of a heart attack. Born the son of Emory and Catherine (Yingling) Dodson on April 8, 1899, he married Alma Clark in St. Patrick's Catholic church, Newry on Nov 25, 1920. Surviving are his wife, two children, Mrs. Mary Louise Winters of Groton, Conn., and Robert of Hollidaysburg; five grandchildren, four great- grandchildren and three brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Diehl of Newry and Mrs. Nellie Tomlinson, Joseph E., Leo B. and Theodore, all of East Freedom. Mr. Dodson was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Newry and the Freedom- Greenfield Lions. In 1954 he retired as an electrician from the P.R.R. At one time he served as Freedom Twp. road supervisor. Altoona Mirror 6-30-1966 ALMA C. DODSON, 87, formerly of East Freedom, died unexpectedly at 5:35 p.m. Thursday, Jan 3, 1985, in Valley View Home. Mrs. Dodson retired as a school teacher, after teaching in Freedom Twp School District for a number of years and at St. Patrick's Catholic School, Newry and St. Michael's Catholic School, Hollidaysburg. She was born June 21, 1897, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of James and Caroline (Schwartz) Clark, and Nov 25, 1920, in Newry, married David L. Dodson, who died June 29, 1966. Surviving are two children: Mary Louise Winters of Hollidaysburg and Robert D. of East Freedom; five grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren. Mrs. Dodson was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church, Newry. She was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and Indiana State Normal School. DODSON, 90, of East Freedom RD 1, died at 2:20 a.m. Sunday April 21, 1991, at Hillview Care Center. Mr. Dodson retired as an electrician from the P.R.R. Electric Shops in 1965, after 47 years service. He was born Oct 7, 1900, in East Freedom, the son of T. Emory and Catherine (Yingling) Dodson and Feb 23, 1924, in Cumberland Md, married Frances L. Imler. Surviving are his wife, three children: Jack of Lake Charles, La.; Carl E. of Alpharetta, Ga. and Patricia J. Horner of Roaring Spring, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. DODSON, 87, of East Freedom RD 1 died at 2 :50 p.m. Monday, Dec 13, 1993 at her home. She was born June 3, 1906, in Imler, the daughter of Charles R. and Lulu (Kauffman) Imler. She married Joseph E. Dodson on Feb 23, 1924, in Cumberland Md. He died April 21, 1991. Surviving are three children: John I. of Lake Charles, La.; Carl E. of Alpharetta, Ga.; and Patricia J. Horner of Roaring Spring; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church, Newry, and its Altar and Rosary Society. DODSON, 81, of East Freedom died at 10:53 p.m. Friday, June 22, 1984 in Mercy Hospital, after a brief illness. Mr. Dodson was an ice dealer in East Freedom area for 40 years and retired from PennDOT in 1971 after 10 years service. He was born April 18, 1903, in East Freedom RD, the son of Thomas Emory and Catherine (Yingling) Dodson and June 20, 1925, in Newry, married Marie C. Claar, who died May 1, 1978. Surviving are 10 children; Regina L. Delozier, Paul C., Raymond L. and Lawrence O. of East Freedom, Marian M. Blazevich of Imler RD, Loretta M. Walter, Inez M. Biesinger, Barbara E. Leslie and Vincent L. of Claysburg and Colleen A. Ercole of Alexander, Va.; 32 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers and a sister; Joseph E., Theodore and Nellie Tomlinson of East Freedom. Mr. Dodson was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church, Newry and Holy Name Society. Mr. Dodson retired as a bus driver from the former Hicks School Bus Line, East Freedom. He was born Dec 7, 1905, in East Freedom, the son of T. Emory and Catherine C. (Yingling) Dodson. Surviving are a brother and sister: Joseph E. and Nellie R. Tomlinson of East Freedom and a number of nieces and nephews including Robert P. Tomlinson, with whom he resided. HELEN (DODSON) FEATHERS, wife of Harry Feathers of East Freedom, died at the Nason Hospital in Roaring Spring this morning at 4:25 o'clock, death being attributed to peritonitis. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emory Dodson and was born at East Freedom on July 12, 1909, and was united in marriage with Harry Feathers on March 23, 1927, who survives, with three children, Glenn, Rita, and Paul, the latter being only three weeks of age. Also surviving are the parents and these brothers and sisters: Warren, David, Joseph, Leo and Theodore and Mrs. Mary Diehl and Mrs. Robert Tomlinson, all of East Freedom. One brother, Clair Dodson, died three years ago. Mrs. Feathers was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church in Newry and of the Altar and Rosary society. He was born Nov 1, 1904, at East Freedom, a son of Howard and Pearl (Holland) Feathers. His wife the former Helen Dodson, whom he married in 1927, died in 1939. Surviving are his mother, three children: Glenn of Buffalo NY, Mrs. Rita Booth of Newry, and Jerry of Hollidaysburg; two grandchildren, these sisters and brothers, Mrs. Edith Aungst, Edward, Mrs. Alma Ross and Mrs. Evelyn Deyarmin, all of Hollidaysburg. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Nellie (Dodson) Tomilson, to whom he married Sept 26, 1935; three children, Robert, John and Jeannie, all at home; his parents, of Altoona and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Marie Walsh of Claysburg, Mrs. Mildred Lockard, Mrs. Betty Bowen, Bernard and Arthur Tomilson, all of Altoona.
