Chester (all of the family obits call him Charles) Bernard Yingling 1878-1959 married 25 Dec 1903 Elizabeth Belle Dodson 1887-1953. Chester B. Yingling of East Freedom, died at 7 a.m. in the home of his daughter Mrs. Marie Benton of East Freedom. He was born at Blue Knob April 23, 1878, a son of Joseph and Catherine (Glass) Yingling and was united in marriage to Miss. Elizabeth Dodson Dec 25, 1902. Mr. Yingling was a retired P.R.R. car repairman. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church, Newry. Surviving are four daughter, Mrs. Martha Spence of Pittsburg, Mrs. Benton, Mrs. Violet Lingenfelter of Flint Mich. and Mrs. Evelyn Edminston of Williamsburg RD, one son Leo of Roaring Spring; 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Bowers of Bellwood. Altoona Mirror, 3-26-1959 Mrs. Elizabeth Yingling wife of Charles Yingling of East Freedom, died at her home this morning at 6 o'clock following an illness of several months. She was born at Claysburg March 25, 1887, a daughter of Abishia and Margaret (Ickes) Dodson and was married to Mr. Yingling Dec 25, 1903. Surviving are her husband, the following children: Mrs. Martha Spence of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Marie Benton, Frank and John of East Freedom, Leo of Roaring Spring, Mrs. Violet Lingenfelter of Flint Mich. and Mrs. Evelyn Edminston of Williamsburg. One son Maurice preceded her in heath. Also surviving are four brothers, Abe of Cold Water, Mich., Austin of Glasgow, McKinley and Sam of Claysburg; 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Yingling was a member of the East Freedom Lutheran church. Viewing at the home, then removed to the East Freedom Lutheran church. Spence, 92, East Freedom, died Wednesday morning , Feb 14, 2001 at Homewood Nursing Center, Martinsburg. She was born Oct 28, 1908 in East Freedom, a daughter of Charles B. and Elizabeth (Dodson) Yingling. Martha married Fred M. Berkheimer, he died in 1962, she then married John D. Spence, who also preceded her in death. She was a member of Claysburg Church of the Brethren. Mrs. Spence worked temporarily for the railroad during the war. She also worked for Columbia Dry Cleaners, Homestead, PA. She enjoyed making jewelry, crocheting and fishing. Mrs. Spence was a member of the Eastern Star and Degree of Honor. She is survived by a daughter. Theresa O. Musselman, East Freedom; a sister Violet Lingenfelter, Homosassa, Fla.; five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren. BERKHIMER Of Claysburg RD, died suddenly yesterday in the Nason Hospital. He was born Dec 6, 1903, at Ore Hill, a son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Mobley) Berkhimer, and was twice married, first to Martha Yingling, who preceded him in death, and then to Elizabeth Walter. Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Theresa Musselman of Claysburg, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a brother, Oliver of Claysburg RD. He was of the Brethren faith, and a retired employe of the General Refractories Company at Claysburg. SPENCE Of 767 Beechland Ave., Homestead, died at 1 p.m. yesterday in the Homestead Hospital following as illness of two months. He was born at Dunbar, Scotland, Oct 7, 1903, a son of Edward and Jane (Dummond) Spence and was married to Martha Yingling of East Freedom. Surviving are his wife and daughter, Mrs. Teresa Musselman of Claysburg; five grandchildren, his father and two brothers, Edward Jr. and Peter, all of Scotland. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church at Homestead, and was affiliated with the Masonic Temple, Pittsburgh. Mr. Spence was employed at Westinghouse at East Pittsburgh. MARIE BENTON Of East Freedom, died at 11:45 p.m. yesterday in Geisinger hospital, Danville, after a two-month illness. She was born in East Freedom June 1, 1911, a daughter of Charles and Elizabeth (Dodson) Yingling, and Sept 9, 1934 in Cumberland, Md, married Charles Benton. Surviving are her husband and son Richard of Bordentown N.J., two grandchildren, and five brothers and sisters; Mrs. Martha Spence and John both of East Freedom, Leo of Roaring Spring, Mrs. Violet Lingenfelter of Flint, Mich., and Mrs. Evelyn Edmiston of Williamsburg. Benton, 78 of Bordentown, N.J. formerly of East Freedom, died at 4:40 a.m. Sunday, Nov 20, 1988, at the home of his son Richard L. Benton, with whom he resided, following an extended illness. Mr. Benton retired as a car foreman from the Juniata shops of the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was born July 19, 1910 in Altoona, the son of Roscoe and Laura (Burket) Benton and married Uzella Marie Yingling, who died Dec 17, 1967. FRANK (BUSH) YINGLING Of East Freedom, died at 8:25 p.m. yesterday in Mercy Hospital where he had been a patient since Sunday. He was born at East Freedom on Jan 8, 1913, a son of Charles B. and Elizabeth (Dodson) Yingling and on Oct 17, 1931, married Viola Reffner. Surviving are his wife, three children, Charles of Roaring Spring, Mrs. Frank Corle of East Freedom and Judy at home, three grandchildren, his father, of East Freedom and six brothers and sisters; Mrs. Martha Spence of Homestead, Mrs. Marie Benton and John of East Freedom, Leo of Roaring Spring, Mrs. Violet Lingenfelter of Flint, Mich., and Mrs. Evelyn Edmidson of Williamsburg R. D. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, East Freedom and operated the McKee tavern. Friends will be received at the Barefoot Funeral Home, East Freedom. Altoona Mirror, 10-29-1958 Violet M. Yingling, 78, of McKee died at 2:11 a.m. Saturday, Oct 10, 1992, at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring. Mrs. Yingling was a former owner of the McKee tavern. She was born June 3, 1914, in Roaring Spring, the daughter of Chester and Gertrude (Hahn) Reffner. She married Frank W. Yingling in October 1931 in East Freedom. He died in October of 1958. Surviving are three children; Charles of Roaring Spring, Shirley Corle of Martinsburg and Judy Woomer of McKee; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A granddaughter, Debbie Showalter of Martinsburg RD was raised in the home. Also surviving are a brother and two sisters; Clair of Dillsburg, Francelia Stonerook of Martinsburg RD and Florence Kahley of Mentor, OH. Maurice Yingling is now reported as dead having been killed in action in Germany, Dec 18, according to a telegram received yesterday afternoon by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles B. Yingling of East Freedom...... He was born in East Freedom, March 22, 1915, and grew to manhood in his home town and was educated in the public schools and took a course at the Lincoln Electric company school at Cleveland Oh. Before entering the service in Jan, 1941 he was employed as a electrician by the General Refractories Co. at Claysburg. Surviving are the parents and these brothers and sisters; Mrs. Martha Berkheimer of Honesdale, Mrs. Marie Benton, Frank Yingling, Mrs. Violet Lingenfelter and Eva Yingling, all of East Freedom, Leo Yingling of Roaring Spring and Cpl. John M. Yingling with the Army at Gainsburg, Md., who has spent twenty-one months overseas. Sgt. Yingling was a member of the East Freedom Lutheran Church. LEO YINGLING Of 314 Locust St., Roaring Spring, died unexpectedly at his home at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 1970. He was born in East Freedom Dec 17, 1916, a son of Charles B. and Elizabeth (Dodson) Yingling and married Jacqueline Herron of Oct 1, 1938, in East Freedom. Surviving are his wife, two children, Karl L. of Roaring Spring RD and Mrs. Linda L. Smith of Martinsburg, five grandchildren and three sisters and a brother; Mrs. Martha Spence of Port Ritchey, Fla., Mrs. Violet Lingenfelter of Flint Mich., Mrs. Evelyn Edmiston of Williamsburg RD and John M. of East Freedom. Altoona Mirror, 4-6-1970 E. Jacqueline Yingling, 73 of 314 Locust St. Roaring Spring, died Friday evening, Sep 2, 1994, at Nason hospital, Roaring Spring. She was born on Jan 28, 1921, in Roaring Spring. She married Leo Yingling in 1938, he died April 4, 1970. Mrs. Yingling was a member of Roaring Spring Mennonite Church. She enjoyed painting and sewing. Mrs. Yingling was a member of the Ladies Aid Society of the church. Surviving are a son Karl L. of Roaring Spring and a daughter Linda L. Smith of Martinsburg, six grandchildren and four great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Edwin who died in 1940. Yingling, 53, of Bedford St. East Freedom, a retired employe of the Penn Central Samuel Rea Shop at Hollidaysburg, died at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, Oct 15, 1975, at East Freedom. Funeral services were held Friday at the Thompson Funeral Home Roaring Spring, by the Rev Gary Owens. Burial was in Riverside cemetery, Leamersville. He was born at East Freedom, Feb 10, 1922, a son of Charles and Elizabeth (Dodson) Yingling, and married Jayne Steele on July 16, 1955, at Hollidaysburg. Mr. Yingling retired from the shop on disability in 1970, with 32 years service. He served in the Marines in the Pacific theater in World War II and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Roaring Spring VFW. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, East Freedom. Surviving are his wife, four children: Mrs. Cindy Hoover of Roaring Spring; Jeffrey L., Douglas C. and Scott M. at home and three sisters, Mrs. Evelyn Edmiston of Williamsburg and Mrs. Violet Lingenfelter and Mrs. Martha Spence of Port Ritchey. Evelyn M. Edmiston, 70, of Williamsburg died at 6:05 p.m. Friday, May 13, 1994, at her residence, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Edminston was born Dec 12, 1923, in East Freedom, the daughter of Charles B. and Elizabeth (Dodson) Yingling. She married Raymond F. Edminston on July 16, 1945 in Altoona. Surviving are her husband, four daughters; Karen D. Putz of Sterling Heights, Mich., Becky A. Pheasant of Williamsburg and Pamela J. Stock and Sharon E. Frederick of Martinsburg RD2 and 10 grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters Martha Spence of East Freedom and Violet Lingenfelter of Tawas, Mich. Mrs. Edminston retired from the housekeeping department of the Lutheran home at Hollidaysburg and the quality control and packing department of U.S. Envelope, Williamsburg in 1972, after 10 years service. She was an active member of the Cove Forge United Methodist Church, Williamsburg. She was a former judge of elections in Williamsburg Boro. She was a 1942 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. Altoona Mirror, 5-14-1994 Raymond F. Edminston, 74, 225 E 3rd St. Williamsburg, died unexpectedly Friday morning, Oct 24, 1997 at Bon Secours-Holy Family Hospital, following an apparent heart attack. He was born Oct 13, 1923, in Altoona, the son of Samuel and Della Mae (Quinn) Edminston. He married Evelyn M. Yingling July 16, 1945 in Altoona. She died May 13, 1994. Mr. Edminston was a member of the Cove Forge united Methodist church, where he formerly served as treasurer and altar guide. He was also a former member of the church bowling and slow-pitch softball teams. He was currently employed as a student transporter for Appalachian Intermediate Unit 8. He retired as a painter for Blair county in 1985 after 13 years service. Prior to that he was self-employed dairy farmer and milk pasteurizer for the Hollidaysburg State Hospital. Mr. Edminston was a 1942 graduate of Altoona High School and attended the Penn State University for Forestry. Mr. Edminston enjoyed hunting and farming. He was a Army Air Corp veteran of World War II, serving as an aerial gunner in England, where he received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with three oak-leaf clusters, Two Battle Stars and a Good Conduct Ribbon. Mr. Edminston was a member of many sportsmens clubs and local organizations. Surviving are four daughters; Karen D. Putz of Sterling Heights, Mich., Becky A. Pheasant of Williamsburg and Pamela J. Stock and Sharon E. Frederick both of Martinsburg RR2, 10 grandchildren and a great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Stella Rorabaugh in 1994 and an uncle, Wallace "Junior" Quinn in 1994.
