The third child was Mary E., who married Mahlon H. Evans. MRS. MARY E. EVANS, of Hollidaysburg, died at 11 o'clock yesterday morning after a short illness. She was born at Blue Knob March 22, 1863, the daughter of Joseph A. and Catherine (Glass) Yingling. Her husband, Mahlon H. Evans, died Jan 8, 1930. She was a member of St Rose of Lima Catholic church. Surviving are six sons and two daughters, Ignatius of Conemaugh, John A. and Mrs. Genevieve C. Rodkey of Hollidaysburg, F. Joseph, George V., Louis A., Lawrence M. and Mrs. Anna Kephammer of Altoona. Friends will be received at the Reiser funeral home Hollidaysburg, after 7 o'clock this evening. Altoona Mirror 3-7-1956 MAHLON H. EVANS, 4013 Ridge avenue, died of paralysis at 12:20 noon, Wednesday. Mr. Evans was born of George Washington and Sarah Border Evans. He was widely known in Blair county as a storekeeper of William Anderson and Michael Murphy at East Freedom and as a storekeeper and postmaster at Frankstown for a number of years. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic church at Roselawn. Surviving are his wife, Mary Mary Yingling Evans, seven sons and two daughters: J.A. Evans, Hollidaysburg; F. J. He was born in East Freedom July 25, 1883, a son of Mahlon and Mary (Yingling) Evans, and married Mary Rhodes Aug. 23, 1905, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Newry. He is survived by his wife, seven sons and daughters, Bernard of Lancaster, Francis of Altoona, Robert of Fayetteville and John D. of Hollidaysburg, Mrs. Martha Shoemaker of Newry, Mrs. Wendell Watson of Pasadena, Tex., and Mrs. Paul Seymore of Altoona; 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three brothers, George of Altoona, Joseph of Lakemont and Lawrence of Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Evans was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, and a past president of Knights of St. George, Chapter 74; a member of the Macabees and has been active in Democratic Party work. He retired from the South Altoona spring shop as a blacksmith in 1948 after 37 years of service with the PRR. Juniata St. Hollidaysburg, died at 7:05 a.m. Tuesday, Aug 12, 1980, in Mercy Hospital, following an extended illness. She was born July 2, 1884, in East Freedom, the daughter of William and Sara (Dodson) Rhodes and Aug 23, 1905, in Newry married John A. Evans, who died June 21,1968. Surviving are seven children: Francis and Mrs. Genevieve Seymore of Altoona, John D. of Hollidaysburg, Mrs. Martha Shoemaker of Newry, Bernard of Las Vagas Nev., Mrs. Naomi Wasson of Houston Texas and Robert H. of Fayetteville, 17 grandchildren and one-step-grandhcild, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great- great-grandchildren. Mrs. Evans was the oldest member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, and a member of the Church Guild and Legion of Mary. JOSEPH EVANS, formerly of Lakemont, died at 2:50 a.m. today, Feb. 22, 1978 in the Valley View Home, after an extended illness. He retired as a carbuilder from Penn Central Railroad Company in 1954, after 37 years' service. He was born Feb. 6, 1887 in East Freedom, a son of Mahlon and Mary C. (Yingling) Evans, and June 26, 1908 in Huntingdon married Dessa McIntire, who died in 1968. Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews, Mr. Evans was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Lakemont. GENEVIEVE RODKEY, formerly of Frankstown, died in the Hollidaysburg State Hospital at 7:10 p.m. yesterday. She was born at East Freedom Sept 6, 1888 a daughter of Mahlon and Mary E. (Yingling) Evans and married J. Herbert Rodeky, who was killed in a hit-and-run motor accident in Altoona Sept 4, 1964. Surviving are four brothers; John A. of Hollidaysburg, F. Joseph of Lakemont, George V. of Altoona, and Lawrence M. of Cleveland Ohio. A daughter, Marie, who served as concertmeister for the Altoona Civic Symphony, died July 30, 1947. VETERANMICHAEL KAPFHAMMER, 75, of 1423 1st Ave, retired employe of the Pennsylvania Railroad in the Altoona Works and a former baseball player in the area, died at 6:50 a.m. today in the Altoona Hospital where he had been a patient since Dec 7. He was born in Altoona Oct 1, 1888, a son of John and Lena (Hofmansricter) Kaphammer, and on Nov 28, 1911 in Sacred Heart Catholic church married Anna E. Evans, Mrs. Kapfhammer and a son, John died two years ago. Surviving are a son, Charles of the city; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A member of St. Mary's Catholic church and Holy Name Society, the Bavarian Aid Society and a past president of the Knights of St. George, he retired from the Altoona Works in 1954, after 40 years of service as a machinist-inspector. EVANS 1896-1970, of 1208 16th St., died at 12:48 a.m. today, May 7, 1970, in Altoona Hospital, where he was admitted May 5. He was born in East Freedom Oct. 28, 1896, a son of Mahlon and Mary (Yingling) Evans, and married Pearl Shoff in St. John's Pro-cathedral in Altoona Sept. 24, 1919. Surviving are his wife, three daughters and a son, Mrs. Marie O'Connor of Lansdowne Hills, Mrs. Madeline Young of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Patricia Vierkorn of Buffalo, N.Y., and James B. of Westminster, Calif.; 16 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two sisters and a brother, Sister Janet Evans, a member of the Order of Sisters of Charity, Pittsburgh, Mrs. Eileen Newberry of Tyrone and Joseph Evans of Altoona. Mr. Evans was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Holy Name Society, Charles R. Rowan Post 228, American Legion, and Noble Post 3, VFW. He was a veteran of World War I. LEE ROY EVANS, 1897-1942, of 4013 Ridge Ave., Altoona died 5 am Aug 12, 1942 in his home after an extended illness and was a former employee of the PA Railroad. He was born Sep 14, 1897 in Altoona and living siblings: William and Louis of Chambersburg, Albert, George, Joseph, Lawrence, Mrs. Michael Kaphammer, and Mrs. Jennie Rodkey all of Altoona, mother is still alive. Lee Roy married Charlotte Brandle, children: Joseph, US Navy Training Station, Norfolk, VA, Richard, Great Lakes Naval Training station, MI, Thomas and Mary Louise at Home. LAWRENCE "PETE" EVANS, aged 62, a native of Altoona, residing in Cleveland, died in a hospital there on Feb. 7, 1970, after a brief illness. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Mahlon Evans, and while in Altoona was employed in various plants as a meat cutter. In Cleveland he was employed as a meat inspector. Surviving are his wife, five children, including John E. of Altoona, and two brothers, George of Altoona and Joseph of Lakemont. Interment was made in Cleveland. Altoona Mirror 2-9-1970 LILLIAN M. EVANS, 91, The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg, formerly of 3917 Burgoon Road, died Friday morning, Sept 27, 2002, at the home. She was born April 25, 1911 in Altoona, a daughter of John E. and Mary (Henry) Force. She married Lawrence A. Evans, he died in 1969. Mrs. Evans retired as a clerk from Gable's Department Store, she enjoyed sewing. Surviving are a son, John E. Evans of State College; a daughter Marsha M. Hix of Visalia Calif., six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a brother, Ralph E. Force of Altoona and a sister, Shirley I. Force of Altoona. Interment in Rose Hill cemetery.
