JOHN M. YINGLING, well known resident of East Freedom and a retired employe of the Pennsylvania railroad in Altoona, died yesterday afternoon at 3:15 o'clock following an extended illness. He was a son of Joseph and Catherine (Glass) Yingling and was born in Greenfield township, Aug 12, 1870. His wife, the former Hannah Ott, preceded him in death. Surviving are these sons and daughters: Mrs. James Diehl of Duncansville R.D., Charles of Duncansville, George of Altoona, Lewis of Claysburg, Harry and Mrs. Donald Burns, both of East Freedom, Cpl Warren Dodson (sic), who just recently returned from the Philippines and nine grandchildren. One daughter Hannah Yingling is deceased. Also surviving are these sisters and brothers: Mrs. Emory Dodson and Mrs. Mary Evans, both of East Freedom, Mrs. Margaret Powers of Bellwood, Charles Yingling of East Freedom and William Yingling of Loop. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church in Newry. Friends received at the home of Mrs. Donald Burns in East Freedom. Altoona Mirror 10-11-1945 MRS. ANNA OTT YINGLING wife of John N. Yingling, died Saturday evening at her home in East Freedom, death resulting from complications. She was a daughter of Andrew and Jane (Eichelberger) Ott and was born in East Freedom on Aug 15, 1873. She was married to Mr. Yingling on Jan 17, 1893. The husband and the following children survive: Mrs. Rose Diehl of Duncansville, R.D., Samuel of Altoona, Charles of Fairmont, W.Va., Harry, Warren, Louis and Hannah and Mrs. Donald Burns, all of East Freedom. Three grandchildren also survive, along with the following brothers and sisters: John and Grant Ott, Mts. Thaddeus Lingenfelter and Mrs. Harnish Watters, all of Altoona, and Mrs. Rose Bowers of Harrisburg. She was a member of the East Freedom United Brethren church. Friends received at home. She was born Aug 29, 1896, in East Freedom, the daughter of John M. and Anna (Ott) Yingling, and Aug 9, 1934 in Newry married James Diehl. Surviving are her husband and three brothers and a sister, Harry A. and Warren J. of Altoona, Lewis H. of Claysburg and Mrs. Grace Burns of East Freedom. Altoona Mirror 4-15-1980 JAMES V. DIEHL, 89, of Box 150, Duncansville RD 2, died unexpectedly at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug 28, 1984 in Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring, after a brief illness. Mr. Diehl retired as tax collector for Juniata township in 1980, after 58 years service. He also retired as a farmer. He was born Sept 1, 1894, in Juniata township, the son of Aaron and Jane (Moyer) Diehl, and Aug 9, 1934, in Newry, married Rose A. Yingling, who died April 14, 1980. Surviving is a brother Leo of Duncansville RD 2. Mr. Diehl was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church Newry, and Holy Name Society. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus and Miraculous Medal Organization, Hollidaysburg and was a 50 year member of the Knights of St. George, Hollidaysburg. YINGLING PRR RETIREE DIES AT 83 Of 1314 Logan Blvd, died at 6 a.m. today, Jan 11, 1982, in Altoona Hospital, following a brief illness. Mr. Yingling retired as a stockman from the mechanical department of the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1964, after 47 1/2 years' service. He was born Nov 19, 1898 in East Freedom, the son of John and Annie (Ott) Yingling, and May 31, 1946 in Altoona, married Catherine Meek. Surviving are his wife, and two step-children: Ronald S. Meek of Houston, Texas and Bessie May Cox of Altoona, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers and a sister: Lewis of Claysburg, Warren of Altoona and Grace Burns of East Freedom. Mr. Yingling was a member of the Garden Heights United Methodist Church. He was a Army veteran of World War II. Interment in Grandview cemetery. Altoona Mirror 1-11-1982 CATHERINE MEEK YINGLING City woman dies at 85 CATHERINE MEEK YINGLING, 85, of Eldorado Mobile Home Court, formerly of 1314 Logan Blvd., died at 6:15 am Sunday, May 26, 1985, in Hillview Convalescent Cemetery. Mrs. Yingling had worked in the office of the women's advisor for the Pennsylvania Railroad during World War II. She was born Nov. 23, 1899, in Jed, Scotland, the daughter of Edward and Annie (Gardyne) Clark, and was twice married, first on Dec 5, 1919, in New York City, to Edgar M Meek, who died April 8, 1943, then on May 30, 1946, in Altoona, to Harry A. Yingling, who died Jan. 11, 1982. Surviving are two children: Ronald S. Meek of Houston, Texas, and Bessie Cox, with whom she had resided; four grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. Also surviving are several sisters in Montrose, Scotland. Mrs. Yingling was a member of the Garden Heights United Methodist Church, where she served as Cherub Choir director. She had also served in the music department of the Greenwood Untied Methodist Church. She served as pianist for the original Golden Age Club for 35 years and the chorus. She also served as president of the Greenwood Elementary Association and Altoona Area High School PTA for four years, where she served on the county council and was state radio, chairman. She was a member of the Lakemont Park Advisory Council and past president of the State YMCA Mother's Club and YMCA State Advisory Board. She was a charter president of the Greenwood Fire Company. Friends will be received from 2 to 9 pm Wednesday and 10 to 11 am Thursday in the Mauk & Yates Funeral Home, Juniata. Surviving are his wife, the former Grace Reifstock: two sisters, Mrs. Rose Diehl of Duncansville and Mrs. Grace Burns of East Freedom, and four brothers, Harry and Warren of Altoona, Charles S. of Hollidaysburg and Lewis of Claysburg. Mr. Yingling was employed as a carbuilder at the Rea shops of the Pennsylvania railroad. Busch, 69, of 425 Ash St. Garden Heights, died at 9:35 a.m. Saturday, Feb 17, 1973, in Mercy Hospital, where she was admitted Jan 1. She was born June 24, 1903, in Altoona, a daughter of William F. and Annie Margaret (Klink) Reifsteck, and married George A. Busch, a former city councilman. Surviving are her husband and four brothers and sisters, Mrs. Annie Margaret Burns of Deep Creek, Md.; Mrs. Wilhelmina Appleby of Williamsville, N.Y.; Mrs. Ruth Hudson of Altoona and Martin William of Antis. CHARLES W.YINGLING Of 1007 Green Avenue Tower died at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb 22, 1979 in the VA Hospital Medical Center. Mr. Yingling retired as a restaurant owner in Tacna, Ariz. He was born Aug 26, 1902 in East Freedom, the son of John and Anna (Ott) Yingling and Mar 8, 1946, in Winchester, VA married Kathleen Riley. Surviving are his wife and five brothers and sisters, Mrs. Rose Diehl of Blue Knob, Mrs. Grace Burns of East Freedom, Harry and Warren of Altoona and Louis of Claysburg. Mrs. Yingling retired as a restaurant and tavern owner in 1971, after 10 years. He was born Jan 4, 1906, in East Freedom, the son of John W. and Annie (Ott) Yingling, and Nov 26, 1938 in Cumberland Md, married Gladys Ziegler. She was born April 2, 1908, in Spring Hope, Bedford county, the daughter of William and Effie (Hoover) Ziegler. She married Lewis H. Yingling on Nov 26, 1938, in Cumberland Md. He died June 11, 1990. Surviving are three sons: John W., Richard L. and Allan R. of Claysburg; five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Mrs. Yingling was a member of Claysburg United Methodist Church. He was born Aug 9, 1910, in East Freedom, the son of John and Anne (Ott) Yingling and Oct 11, 1945 in Newry married Geraldine Winifred Vaughan. Surviving are his wife and two children: Claudia Horetsky of Duncansville and Charles E. Hess of Chambersburg; six grandchildren and a great-grandson. YINGLING, 89, 789 Puzzletown Road, Duncansville, died Wednesday afternoon, Oct 27, 1999 at Nason hospital, Roaring Spring. She was born Aug 13, 1910 in Altoona, the daughter of Claude and Ida (White) Vaughn. She was married twice, first to Charles Hess, who preceded her in death and second Oct 11, 1946 in Newry to Warren J. Yingling, who died Dec 9, 1982. Mrs. Yingling was a member of Newry Lutheran church. She was a former employee of the Sylvania plant, Altoona. She was a graduate of Altoona High School. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and crocheting. She was a member of the Thimble Bee Club, Altoona. Surviving are a daughter, Claudia K. Known as Tib, Mrs. Burns had been employed as a seamstress at the former Loungeray, Hollidaysburg. She was born Nov 11, 1913 in East Freedom, the daughter of John and Anna Mae (Ott) Yingling. She married Donald R. Burns on Feb 28, 1936, in Hollidaysburg. He died Feb 11, 1951. Surviving are four children: Margaret A. at home, Letty B. Riley of East Freedom, Russel H. of Altoona and Karen Socie of Claysburg; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Interment was made today in Roaring Spring, arrangements by Thompson Funeral Home, Roaring Spring. Altoona Mirror 1-6-1994 DONALD L. BURNS, of East Freedom, died of a heart attack at his home at 1:30 o'clock yesterday morning after several days' illness. Mr. Burns was born at Burns Crossing July 8, 1909, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Waite) Burns. He was employed by the Pennsylvania railroad. He married Miss. Grace Yingling of East Freedom. Surviving are his wife and these children: Margaret Ann, Betty Lou, Russell Harris and Karen Sue, all at home, his step-mother, Mrs. Grace R. Burns of Duncansville RD; two sisters, Mrs. Wesley Bretz of Duncansville RD and Mrs. Ralph W. Tate of Duncansville. One brother, Harris, preceded him in death. He was a member of the Lutheran church.
