SARAH YON 80 YEARS OF AGE Mrs. Sarah Ann Yon, widow of the late David A. Yon is today quietly celebrating her 80th birthday at her home, 1417 Eighteenth street. Mrs. Yon was born in Blair county near the present site of Bellwood, and has lived in Altoona or vicinity all her life. She was always very active until three years ago last November, when it was found necessary to remove her left foot, since which time she has enjoyed good health until about four weeks ago. She has not been so well recently due to the infirmities of her age. Her three children, Miss Clara R. Yon, at home, Mrs. Fan M. Harrison of Ansonville, Pa., and Scott I. Yon, of Ashland, Ky., together with Mr. Harrison, are all with her today to help celebrate this anniversary an age attained by comparatively few people. A delicious dinner, with the usual birthday cake, was enjoyed by Mrs. Yon and her guests at noon. Mrs. Yon received a number of floral remembrances on this occasion, as well as quite a large shower of birthday cards. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., Thursday, March 24, 1932 AGED RESIDENT IS CALLED BY DEATH Mrs. Sarah Ann Yon, widow of David A. Yon and for many years a resident of Altoona, died at her home, 1417 Eighteen street, at 4.40 o'clock this morning of a congestive heart disease after having been ill for the past four weeks. Mrs. Yon was born on March 24, 1852, near the present site of Bellwood, celebrating her 80th birthday anniversary last Thursday. She was the oldest daughter of Levi and Mary Riling and at the time of her death was the oldest living member of the Riling family, one of the oldest families in this section of the state. On March 27, 1879, she was united in marriage with David A. Yon, who died on March 12, 1923. Mr. Yon was one of the pioneer residents of Altoona and was engaged in business here for many years. To their marriage there were four children born, three of whom survive, Miss Clara E. Yon, at home, Mrs. Fan M. Harrison of Ansonville, Ky., and Scott I. Yon of Ashland, Ky. All of her children were at their mother's bedside at the time of her death. Surviving also are three sisters, Mrs. A.D. Mosser of Lock Haven, Mrs. William J. Metzgar of the city and Mrs. Clara I. Bell, who resides at the Malta home in Granville, Pa., and three brothers, William B. Riling of Eldorado, Woods B. Riling and Harry S. Riling of the city. At the age of 17 years Mrs. Yon united with the First Lutheran church of the city and, with the exception of about nine years in early womanhood when her parents lived at Lewisburg and Lock Haven, she had been a continuous member of the church, being an active member of the Women's Missionary society and the Brehman Bible class, as well as the Ladies' Aid society. Three years ago, however, it was necessary to amputate her left foot and since that time she had lived a quiet life at her home. Mrs. Yon was one of the pioneer residents of the northwestern section of the city, having lived for over forty-seven years on the square bounded by Fourteenth and Fifteenth avenues and Eighteenth and Nineteenth streets, over thirty-six years in the dwelling at 1417 Eighteenth street. The funeral services will be held at the home at 2.30 o'clock Thursday afternoon with her pastor, Rev. Marlon J. Kline, D.D., officiating. Interment will be made in the family plot in Carson Valley cemetery. Altoona Mirror, Altoona, Pa., Monday, March 28, 1932
