Yon, of 1308 Fourth avenue, died at the Altoona hospital Saturday afternoon at 1:25 o'clock as the result of burns sustained shortly before 11 o'clock that morning, when her clothing ignited while she was at play near the kitchen range. The parents had been away from the home, leaving Viola and a younger sister in the house by themselves. When they returned shortly before noon, they found the older child lying in an unconscious condition on the kitchen floor. Her clothing had been partly burned from her body, the flesh had been seared and burned practically over her entire body and she was near to death. The wisps of partially burned paper strewn about the floor told the story of how the accident happened. The child had been lighting paper at the range and her clothing had become lighted. That the child had tried to extinguish the flames was evident by the condition in which the parents found the kitchen. She had practically smothered out the fire when she fell to the floor. Neighbors did not hear any screams but believe they heard a faint cry from one of the children just about the time of the accident. The child was hurried to the hospital and there an examination showed that she had been burned practically over the entire body. She lingered until the hour mentioned above when death ended her sufferings. The remains were given over to Undertakers Lafferty & Tobias to be prepared for burial. The funeral will take place this afternoon with services at 2:30 o'clock at the Lafferty & Tobias chapel. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge cemetery.
