At twenty minutes past 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon William S. Yon died at the residence of his son, Crawford Yon, No. 2311 Seventh avenue. For four weeks past he had been confined to his bed, a sufferer from gangrene. Deceased was born in Frederick City, Md., September 3, 1819, and was consequently aged 71 years, 6 months and 23 days. In his early manhood he came to Blair county and has lived in Altoona for over a score of years past. He was an employe of the railroad company, being employed in planing mill No. 2, and in this position was trusted by those who were in charge. He wife died nineteen years ago. Two sons and two daughters are left to mourn the death of an ever kind father. These children are Crawford and Harry C. Yon, of Altoona, and Mrs. Walter Mattingly and Misses Elsie and Mary Yon, also of this city. He also leaves four brothers and four sisters - Henry, Samuel and David A. Yon, of Altoona; Dillman Yon, of Duncansville; Mrs. William Brown, of Phoenixville, Pa.; Mrs. John Riling, of Eldorado; Mrs. George Anderson, of Altoona, and Mrs. David Coho, of Blacklick, Indiana county. Deceased was a member of the First Lutheran church. The funeral will take place on Saturday afternoon at half past 2 o'clock, the services being held at the residence of his son Crawford, 2311 Seventh avenue, where he died.
