Yost, of 1903 Sixth avenue, received a telegram late Thursday night announcing the death of her son, Corporal Charles J. Yost, death being caused by pneumonia in a base hospital in France on Sept. 16. The young man was aged 21. He enlisted May 28, 1917, in this city before he had reached his majority and was trained at El Paso, Tex. He sailed for France July 31 of the same year. He was a non-commissioned officer in the headquarters company of the 5th Field artillery, holding the rank of corporal. Corporal Yost before enlisting conducted a small confectionery store at Lexington avenue and Second street. His mother since his absence has had charge of the store. Prior to his entering business he was employed as a clerk in the general superintendent's office in this city. His mother is the only immediate survivor. He was a member of Christ's Reformed church. The last letter to his mother was received on Sept. 4, having been written in August. At that time he stated that he was in good health and was gaining weight. The young man had been in action a number of times with the field of artillery, being engaged in field signal work, and in previous letters had mentioned a number of instances in which he had narrow escapes from death.
