Young, a Widely Known Lumber Dealer, Dies at Hollidaysburg RESIDENT OF COUNTY ALL HIS LIFE Blair B. Young, one of the most prominent residents of Hollidaysburg and leading lumber operators of this section of the state, died yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at his residence 800 Penn street, of a complication of diseases. Mr. Young had been in failing health for the past several years, but had only been confined to his bed for the past three weeks. The deceased was a son of John and Elizabeth Young, well known farmers of the county, and was born on a farm on the plank road in Allegheny township, now known as the Kipple farm, where he spent his boyhood days, receiving his early education at the township school, later finishing it at the California (Pa.) State Normal school. He was a resident of Blair county his whole lifetime, entering the lumber business when quite young and remaining engaged in it until forced to desist on account of ill health. He became one of the most prominent lumber operators in this section, having extended his operations in Blair, Huntingdon, Bedford, Cambria and Fulton counties, and attained the highest success in his business. Mr. Young was one of the town's most stable and active citizens, ever manifesting a deep interest in all the affairs of the borough and always anxious to further its advancement in every way. He served two terms as a member of the borough council, from 1909 until 1918, and was twice elected president of the body. He was a member of the street committee and worked untiringly for the improvements of the streets of the town, and was ever one of the most active members of the municipal body. He was a staunch Republican, but never aspired to any other office except that of council, and never took an active interest in politics. He was very prominent in Masonic circles, being a past master of Juniata Lodge No. 282, of Hollidaysburg; Commandery No. 10, of Altoona, Knights Templar and Jaffa Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. of Altoona. Mild in manner and ever of a kindly genial nature, he was possessed of a personality that won for him friends on all sides, who will be deeply grieved to hear of his demise. He was quiet and unassuming, always shunning the limelight in every respect, and carried on his business and other work in a way that attracted little or no attention. He was an expert all-around business man and knew the lumber business from A to Z. Being very fond of the woods, he spent much time at his lumber camps, combining business with pleasure, taking a keen delight in tramping the woodland ways. Mr. Young was united in marriage to Miss Maud Amick, of St. Clairsville, Bedford county, on February 20, 1915,* and is survived by his wife and these brothers and sisters: Mrs. B. W. Peck, of Connellsville, Pa.; Mrs. C. H. Kendall, of Altoona; and Mrs. S. R. Campbell, R. D. Young and C. ? Young, of Hollidaysburg. The funeral services will be held at his late home on Wednesday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock to be in charge of the Knights Templar. Interment will be made in the Presbyterian cemetery.
