Zang, 83, of RD 5, Tyrone died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006 at 6:55 a.m. at Altoona Center for Nursing Care. He was born July 19, 1923 in Sicily, Italy, a son of the late Anthony and Rosa (Mazzeo) Zang. On Sept. 9, 1947 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone, he married Louise Domenick. Surviving are his wife, a son Joseph R. and wife Gloria of Tyrone, a daughter Mary Margaret Zang of Tyrone, three grandchildren, Gina Grazier and husband Jeff, Jamie Zang and Julie Svendsen and husband Chris and three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Madison and Brendan Grazier. He was the last of his immediate family being preceded in death by two brothers: Eugene and Cosmo. Mr. Zang served as steward of the Tyrone Elks # 212 for 45 years. He also was a chef consultant for various area restaurants for many years. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, a member of the former Gardner Guards Drum and Bugle Corp., Tyrone, the Tyrone Elks and the Southern Blair Chef's Association, Altoona. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving as a Private First Class with the 129th Infantry in the Asiatic Pacific theatre. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006 at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Church with Fr. Joseph T. Orr, Celebrant. Committal with veteran's honors will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Feller Memorial Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Elks memorial services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and Christian Wake services at 8:30 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to United Cerebral Palsy, 1660 L Street, NW, Suite 700, Washington DC 20036.
