John Harker Zook, a well known resident of Roaring Spring, died at his home on East Main street Monday evening, after a two days' illness of influenza. Mr. Zook had been a sufferer from Bright's disease for twenty years and during recent years his heart action has been very weak. This heart trouble was the indirect cause of his death. John Zook was born at Baker's Summit, Feb. 8, 1877, the son of Charles and Sarah (deceased) Zook. On Jan. 31, 1901 he was united in marriage to Miss Minnie Mutzebaugh, of Duncansville. Over six years ago Mr. Zook's eyesight failed and he was compelled to give up all active employment. At that time he was assistant to his father, Charles Zook, who for quite a number of years was postmaster. He was also leader and founder of the Zook orchestra. After ill health compelled him to give up his orchestra work, he became musical instructor to many of the town's young people. He was greatly beloved by all his pupils as well as by a large circle of friends. Mr. Zook was a member of the M. D. Butler Camp, sons of Veterans. He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Miss Mary, at home, also by his father, Charles Zook, and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Myrtle Lorenz, Mrs. Martha Garber, Miss Annie Zook and Warren Zook, all of Roaring Spring. His mother preceded him to the grave three years ago. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. A. S. Williams at his late residence at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Interment will be made in Greenlawn cemetery. Altoona Times, Altoona, Pa., Wednesday Morning, October 16, 1918
