A decreased rate of mortality is to be noted in the number of deaths in Tyrone borough during the year Nineteen Hundred and Eleven, there being ten less than during the year 1910; three less than in 1909; twenty-seven less than in 1908; two less than in 1907; and eight more than in 1906 when there were ninety-one, eighty-four, one hundred and eight, eighty-three and seventy-three respectively. It will be noticed that February and November were the banner months in calling away our loved ones. There were no deaths of persons between the ages of fifteen and twenty-five. Only seven children died between the ages from one to fifteen years. One nonagenarian passed to her reward, namely Mrs. Mary O'Donnell McCann, who was aged 91 years. The youngest person was Allen, son of William D. and Asenith Melcher, aged one day. Pneumonia again carried away the greatest number of people; ten have died from this disease. Bright's disease also claimed nine persons. Tuberculosis called away only four persons. During the year the borough was visited by fearful storms during which the floods swept away a dwelling in which resided Mrs. Rebecca J. Hinkle, who was drowned. George Updyke, of West Washington avenue, met death while on duty on the Middle division, Pennsylvania railroad. Only two colored persons out of a population of one hundred and thirty souls, died during the year, namely Mabel G. Spriggs and her grandfather, John A. Spriggs. The births in Tyrone borough are almost three times the number of those who died. One hundred and eighty-seven children were born. There were no deaths in Tyrone from Sept. twelve to October twenty.
