Nuptial high mass was celebrated at St. John's Catholic church at 8 o'clock Tuesday morning, the occasion being the marriage of Mr. Joseph Butler and Miss Mary E. Smith, both of this city, Rev. Father Smith officiating. The attendants were Mr. James Smith, brother of the bride, and Miss Annie Flanigan. The bride and bridesmaid were handsomely arrayed in white satin, while the groom and his attendant were dressed in the conventional black. Mrs. George Fresh presided at the organ and with the choir, composed of Misses Cullen and Mr. James Gattan, rendered exquisite music. After the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride, and here the happy couple were the recipients of many handsome and useful presents. In the evening the Happy Social club rendered some sweet music at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The newly wedded couple departed on day express on a ten days' trip to cities in the east. They were accompanied by the well wishes of their many friends. Mr. Butler is a young gentleman who has many friends in this city who will wish him any quantity of happiness. He is a machinist by trade and has charge of a gang of men in the upper round house. The bride is a daughter of Mr. James R. Smith, of No. 1216 Thirteenth avenue, and is well fitted to make the home of her husband a happy one.
