A great surprise in social circles took place last evening when shortly before the stroke of 6 o'clock Miss Caroline Poorman, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. E. C. Poorman, and one of Tyrone's best known and most popular young ladies, called her friends on the telephone and stated that within ten minutes she would be the bride of James Downes. At a delightful luncheon last October, given by Mrs. Herron T. Woodle in honor of Miss Poorman, the announcement was made but the exact time of the nuptials was not given out until last evening. On account of a recent bereavement, only the immediate families of the contracting parties were present, with the exception of Miss Elizabeth Boeking, an intimate friend of the bride. The ceremony was performed in the rectory of St. Matthew's Roman Catholic church, Rev. J. P. Looney officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Downes left on the 6:49 train for Philadelphia, where they will make their future home.
