Last evening at 8 o'clock at the residence of the bride, 1603 Sixth avenue, Miss Bertha Hughes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Hughes, was joined in marriage to Mr. Joseph Howe, of this city. The ceremony was performed by Rev. T. S. Wilcox, pastor of the Eighth Avenue Methodist Episcopal church. The bridal couple took their places, moving to the music of Lohengrin's wedding march, played on the piano by Miss May Hughes, a sister of the bride. There was no bridesmaid or groomsman, and the wedding party consisted of a few of the close friends of the contracting parties and the immediate relatives. The house decorations of palms and ferns and flowers were tastefully arranged and appropriate for the occasion. After an enjoyable wedding reception, during which a substantial supper was served, Mr. and Mrs. Howe were driven to the station, where they departed on the 10.40 train for a wedding trip to the east that will include a visit to Philadelphia, Atlantic City, Baltimore and Washington. On or about July 15 they will go to housekeeping in their new home on Tenth street near Sixteenth avenue. Morning Tribune, Thursday, June 22, 1899
