All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/blair/ _______________________________________________ St. Mary's Is Scene of Rites Miss Joanne Kathryn Porta, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Porta of 2508 Seventh avenue, was united in marriage with James Paul Kane, son of Mrs. Mary Kane of 1325 Fourteenth avenue, in St. Mary's Catholic church on Monday morning, May 24, at 10 o'clock. Rev. Father Donald Wagner officiated at the nuptial mass. The altar of the church was banked with gladioli and fern and mass was sung by the children's choir. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a light green gabardine suit with black accessories, a white hat with black veiling and an orchid corsage. Mrs. Janice Haggins of Springfield, Mass., sister of the bride, was matron of honor wearing a light brown sharkskin suit with brown accessories, a brown hat with matching veil and a corsage of yellow roses. Fred Fiocco, friend of the bridegroom, was best man. The mother of the bride chose a beige gabardine suit with green lizard accessories and a corsage of red roses. The mother of the bridegroom selected a navy blue dress with black accessories and a corsage of red roses. Following the ceremony a reception was held at Erculiani's restaurant in Gallitzin where a chicken dinner was served to 20 guests. The table was decorated with white roses, ferns, candles and a three-tier wedding cake topped with a miniature bride and bridegroom. The bride's gift to her attendant was a handbag and the bridegroom's gift to his best man was a wallet. Out-of-town guests were present from Springfield, Mass., Johnstown and Bellefonte. The couple left on a wedding trip to New York city. For traveling the bride wore a black crepe dress with Kelly green accessories. The newlyweds are at home at 1325 Sixteenth avenue. The bride is a graduate of Altoona High school, a member of Altoona Catholic sorority and was formerly employed in the main office of the Mercy hospital. The bridegroom attended Altoona High school and spent three years in the Army Air force, one year of which was spent in the Mariannas islands. He is an employe of the PRR.
