Little Italy was the scene of a happy wedding and a reception yesterday, the marriage being celebrated according to the rights of the mother country. James Massaro and Donatto Roboene were the contracting parties. They were married at St. Mark's Catholic church by Father N. J. O'Reiley. After the ceremony they returned to ? Ninth avenue, where a reception was tendered the couple by their countrymen. There were about seventy-five persons in attendance, and they passed the evening in singing, dancing, etc. The customs of the Italians is for the groom to purchase the bride. In this case the price was $49, which the groom gladly paid Nick Roboene, a brother of the bride. Altoona Mirror, Monday, August 28, 1899, page 8
