Hess, 1801 First avenue, Altoona, was the scene of a pretty wedding Christmas evening at 8 o'clock, when their daughter, Miss Gladys Hess, was unired(sic) in marriage to Mr. J. Lester Showalter. To the strains of Mendelssohn's wedding march, played by Miss Irene Sweet, and aunt of the bride, of Philadelphia, the bridal party entered the parlor. The bride was given in marriage by her father, Rev. M. L. Hess, and was attended by her sisters, the Misses Meda and Sarah Hess. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. Norris S. Thompson and Mr. Charles Ayle. The ceremony was performed by Rev. J. Max Lantz, pastor of Simpson Methodist church, assisted by the bride's father, Rev. Hess. The bride was charmingly attired in white brocaded satin trimmed with lace, and a veil of tulle caught with orange blossoms. Her corsage was of lilies of the valley and orchids. Her attendants wore apricot canton crepe. Mr. Showalter is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Showalter of this place, and is physical instructor at the Western Institute for the Blind at Pittsburg. The bride is a graduate nurse of the Nason hospital, Roaring Spring, and recently was located at the McGee hospital, Pittsburgh. After Jan. 15, Mr. and Mrs. Showalter will be at home to their friends in the Oakland district, Pittsburgh. Martinsburg Herald, January 6, 1922
