A quiet wedding, somewhat tinged with romance, occurred at the Lutheran parsonage on Friday afternoon. The ceremony, which was partly in the German language, was performed by Rev. E. B. Killinger. The contracting parties, who went immediately from the court house to the parsonage with the license certificate in their possession, upon which the ink had not yet dried, were Mr. George Frederick Somer and Miss Joanna Frederica Smith. The happy groom had on that day arrived in Hollidaysburg from the Fatherland, and in the morning of the same day had met for the first time his happy bride. When Miss Smith arrived on our shores from Germany she was accompanied by a gentleman to whom she was engaged to be married, the wedding to have taken place immediately after landing in America. But for some reason the affianced lover repented of his migration to this country either from home sickness or some cause, and determined to return to his native land at once. He accordingly made known his intention to his betrothed and to heal the wounded and disappointed feelings of his prospective bride vowed to her in the most solemn manner that he would send a friend who was coming to America to take his place. Matters were thus satisfactorily arranged, and he departed for Germany and she for Blair county, Pa. Very soon a correspondence commenced between Miss Smith and Mr. Somer. An understanding was arrived at, which resulted in Mr. Somer coming at once to America and on last Friday morning he landed safely in Hollidaysburg and without delay started in search of his intended. In this he had no difficulty, and in a short time the happy couple met for the first time. As above stated they were happily united in the bonds of matrimony in the afternoon, a house was rented and they commenced housekeeping on Saturday morning. Altoona Tribune, November 12, 1885
