A romance of long standing came to a culmination on Wednesday in Sinking valley, just beyond Tyrone, when the marriage ceremony was performed by Rev. Edgar R. Heckman, D.D., district superintendent of the Altoona district of the Central Pennsylvania conference of the Methodist church, that united in holy bonds Miss Elizabeth Chapman Waring and Rev. Clair Jones Switzer. The ceremony was performed at the home of the bride's brother, Carl Waring, who is a prosperous farmer of the valley. These two young people went to church together in the "youth" days at Tyrone and were attracted to each other. Subsequently both of them attended school at the Missionary institute at Nyack-on-the-Hudson, both fitting themselves to be missionaries. Miss Waring did go to Porto Rico and afterward to Venezuela and labored in her chosen work. Mr. Switzer graduated and entered the ministry of the Methodist Episcopal church of this district and is now located at the Broad Avenue church, Altoona. He is considered one of the rising young men of the ministry. Miss Waring for the last few years has resided at Denair, Cal., and came here for the wedding, accompanied by her mother. She is the eldest daughter of Frank R. Waring and wife, who resided in Tyrone all their lives until their removal to California about five years ago. Mr. Switzer was raised in Sinking valley and his parents still reside there. Only the families of the young couple were present at the wedding. Altoona Tribune, Thursday morning, July 25, 1918, page 3
