On last Wednesday your scribe had the pleasure of attending a social gathering at the residence of Caspar and Susan Waite, Tyrone, Pa., in commemoration of their fiftieth wedding anniversary. The guests, numbering about twenty-five, hailing from Altoona, Tyrone, Tipton, Warriorsmark and Canoe valley, were on the immediate friends and relatives, and the affair was a complete surprise to the parties most intimately concerned. After the compliments and congratulations incident to such occasions, were exchanged, the ladies of the party took possession, and from the mysterious depths of hampers and baskets procured and prepared a feast fit for the gods, a collation designed to tickle the appetite of the most fastidious epicure. It is needless to say that the viands were highly enjoyed, especially by your scribe and Brother Hildebrand, junior. The groom, Caspar Waite, is almost an octogenarian; will reach his 80th year sometime in April. The bride, Susan Waite, nee Walter, is 9 years younger. Both are hale and hearty, considering their years and the hardships of life which they have undergone. As we draw the curtain over the picture, leaving them to their quiet life and return to our own homes, we wish them happiness as full as that which we enjoyed when we were assembled beneath their roof, to wish them joy on an anniversary so seldom reached in domestic life. May the "peace which passeth all understanding" smooth the rough pathway of their declining years. - J. K. W. Morning Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Monday, March 30, 1891
