Alexander McPherson Page 393, 394, 395 Blair County Will book 7-A-393 (1846-1861) Logan Township, Blair, PA Last will and Testament of Alexander McPherson, Decd In the Name of God Amen J. Alexander McPherson of Logan Township Blair County in the State of Pennsylvania, being weak in body but of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding and considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of the time thereof, and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs and thereby be the better prepared to leave the world when it shall please God, to call me home do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following to wit. First and principally I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God and my body to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors . Item: I give and devise unto my beloved wife Hannah (McCartney) the sum of Seven hundred dollars to be paid to her within one year of my decease, all the bedding she brot with her & made by her since, two bedsteads, one bureau, one cow, one set of Green chairs, such an amount of Queensware as she may choose to retain, all the dried fruit and provisions that may be on hand at the time of my decease to be in full of her share of my estate Real & personal and in lieu of her dower. Item: I give and bequeath unto my only son Allen McPherson the sum of One thousand dollars to be paid within one year after my decease if it can be conveniently collected and paid without interfering with the other bequeaths herein made and in view of his bad health it is my desire and request that the Orphans Court of Blair County shall appoint a suitable person as Guardian or Trustee to whom the said One thousand dollars shall be paid who shall under the control and direction of said Court invest and (expered) the same for the use of my said son Allen, and I also give unto my said son Allen one bed and bedding to be in full of his share of my estate real & personal. Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Isabelle intermarried with Henry Zimmerman the sum of three hundred dollars to be paid to her in payments of fifty dollars annually commencing one year after my decease and in case of her decease without issue before all the said legacy is fully paid, thus the balance whichof to be paid to my other heirs which ---------- shall be in full of her share of my estate real and personal. Item: I give and bequeath to my daughter Jane who is intermarried with William Haggerty, the sum of two hundred dollars to be paid to her in payments of Fifty dollars annually commencing one year after my decease and where paid, to be in full of her share of my estate real and personal. Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter Margaret intermarried with David Hull the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to be paid to her in payments of fifty dollars annually commencing one year after my decease which when paid shall be in full of her share of my estate real and personal. Item: It is further my will and that I devise that all my personal property not herewith devised shall be sold by my executors and the collection of all my outstanding devices should there be found to be an excess after the payment of the aforesaid legacies then it is my will and desire and I so devise that said excess shall be equally divided between my said heirs share and share alike and lastly I do hereby constitute and approve Taylor W. Glasgow and Jonathan Hamilton to be the executors of this my last will and testament revoking and annulling all former wills by me made ratifying and configuring this to be my last will and testament. Patton, Esq. who being duly sworn according to law, doth dispose & say that he was personally present and saw and heard Alexander McPherson sign, seal execute publish pronounce and declare the foregoing and hereunto attached testament of writing as and for his Last Will and Testament, that he did sign his name as a witness in the presence of the said Testator, at his insistence and request and in the presence of the other subscribing witness Eph. Burket and James L. Gwin who also signed their names thereto at the insistence and request of the said Testator, & in the presence of this depoment & of the said testators and that the signing thereof the said Alexander McPherson was of sound & disposing mind memory and understanding to the best of their knowledge and belief. Sworn and Subscribed before me this 30th day of May 1836 L. H. Williams, Register George W. Patton Blair County SS Before me the Testator for the Probate of Wills and granting Letters of Administration in and for the county, personally appeared, James L. Gwinn Esq. Who being duly sworn according to law doth dispose and say that he was personally present and saw and heard Alexander McPherson sign, seal execute publish, pronounce and declare the foregoing and hereunto attached Testament of writing as and for his Last will and Testament, that he did sign his name thereto as witness in the presence of the said Testator and at his insistence and request and also in the presence of the other subscribed witness, George W. Patton and Eph. Burket, who also signed their names as witnesses thereto, in the presence of the said testator & at his instance and request, and also in the presence of this depoment & at the time of the signing thereof, the said testator was of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding to the best of his knowledge and belief. Letters Testainintory were this day granted to Jonathan Hamilton in the estate of Alexander McPherson dec'd. Inventory to be exhibited in thirty days from this date and a just and true account, calculation and administration of the whole within one year of when thereunto legally required. Given under the seal of the office at Hollidaysburg; 2nd day of June 1856. Inventory filed the 4th day of August A. D. 1856.
