Douglas, of Minneapolis, MN [This Bible descended to Robert Patterson's third son Josiah Patterson, 1752-1823, and is now in the possession of a grand-daughter of the latter, Miss Elizabeth Kelso Patterson, of New York City.] {1922} Robert Patterson was born October 23[or 10th?] 1720*. Was married Farber, 18th 1747.** The record of his children's births: Solomon Patterson was born Faber. 4th 1748 John Patterson was born Faberwarey the 17th, 1750 Josiah Patterson was born April 12th 1752 Lidea Patterson was born March 20th 1755 Ezra Patterson was born August the 18th 1760 Tabitha Patterson was born Jeneuary 13th 1760 Obadiah Patterson was born May 2nd, 1762 Deborah Patterson was born Jenuarey 1st 1764 Zaccheus Patterson was born October 4th 1767 Susannah Patterson was born April 13th 1770 My wife Sarah departed this life August 19th 1794 Robert Patterson***departed this life January 1806 [In another handwriting] Ruth Hannah and Marcy Bursley was born April 17th, 1755 [In Robert Patterson's handwriting] *He came to America with his parents, John and Jean Patterson, about 1740. The family settled in Tinicum Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and there John Patterson lived until 1756. His will, dated 24 November 1755, proved 2 January 1756, described him as of that place. His legatees were: sons, James, Alexander, Andrew, John, Nicholas, and Robert, the latter's son John, and wife Jean. His executors were: brother Andrew Patterson and son-in-law John Mains or Means. **He married Sarah, daughter of James Carroll, or Kirrel, by his wife Dinah, daughter of Bernard Van Kirk, of Bensalem Township, Bucks County; in this connection, see Bergen's Early Settlers of Kings County, New York, page 369. ***The records of Tinicum Presbyterian Church show that Robert Patterson was a trustee of that body from 1762-1772. On 15 December 1774, he was chosen a member of the Committee of Observation or Bucks Co.., and in the minutes of that Committee is mentioned as being present at every meeting, but one, until the minutes break off, Aug. 12., 1776. July 1st 1776, he was appointed one of a Deputation to meet with a similar Deputation from Northampton Co. to settle the quota of Field Officers to be appointed for the Battalion to be raised by those two counties. He was also appointed to represent Tinicum township on a committee to distribute funds to "distressed families whose husbands are now in active service." By deed dated Aug. 14th 1777, he purchased two tracts of land located on the Yellow Breeches Creek, about six miles from Newville, near the present village of Centreville, at that time in West Pennsboro township, Cumberland Co., Pa. and there spent his remaining years. He was an elder in the Big Spring Presbyterian Church , Newville, and at the head of the "Yellow Breeches District", with about thirty-five or so, families under him when the Rev. Samuel Wilson, pastor of the church divided the congregations into "Districts" about 1789.
