Battle; A. Warner & Co.; 1887 Rockhill Township MILTON D. ALTHOUSE recorder, P.O. Sellersville, is a native of Bucks county, and was born in 1841. The first pioneers of the Althouse family were from Germany. Frederick Althouse, a descendant of these early settlers, married Susanna Schlichter, of this county, and by her had nine children, five of whom are deceased. Elias was the third child. He married Maria, daughter of Abraham and Elizabeth (Berger) Deitz, of Lehigh county, Pa. They were the parents of six sons and three daughters. Five sons and two daughters are now living. The father of these children died at the age of 53 years, and the mother is still living, and in her 69th year. Milton D. was the oldest child of this couple. Leaving school at the age of 16, he learned the cigar trade, serving an apprenticeship of but six months, after which he engaged in the manufacture of cigars for upward of twenty years. In 1863 he married Elizabeth, daughter of Jesse and Elizabeth (Nace) Nace. They are the parents of four children: Anne (deceased), Elmer Ellsworth, Howard Ruthford (deceased), and William Henry (deceased). Mr. Althouse is a republican, and in 1884 was elected recorder of his native county, by a majority of 146, although this is a democratic county. Among other positions of trust he has been a member of the school board for three terms, and also of the town council. He is a member of the German Reformed church.
