Battle; A. Warner & Co.; 1887 Falls Township ELWOOD BURTON merchant, P.O. Tullytown, is the youngest son and child of Anthony and Mary (Headley) Burton, and was born on the old homestead farm near Tullytown, February 28, 1836. He attended the public schools and finished his education at the Langhorne academy. He immediately entered the store of his brother-in-law, J. W. Paxson, at Tullytown, as clerk. He continued in that capacity until he was 21 years of age, when, with his brother John, he purchased the business. Two years later Elwood purchased his brother's interest and has since conducted the business alone. He is a director of the Farmers' National bank, at Bristol, and has held that position since 1874. He is also a director of the Bristol Improvement company, and director of the Bristol Rolling Mill company. Mr. Burton is a man of more than ordinary business ability, and has often been called upon to act in the capacity of executor and administrator. He is plain and unassuming in manner and stands high in the estimation of his friends. He is a member of the Society of Friends. September 8, 1859, he was married to Anna H., daughter of John W. and Phoebe (Brown) Bailey. She was born in Falls township. Four children have been born to this union: Ida C., John, Jr., Raymond A. and Lillian C.
