Battle; A. Warner & Co.; 1887 Doylestown A-L FRED CONSTANTINE, JR. editor of the "Bucks County Mirror," P.O. Doylestown, was born in Doylestown, February 23, 1853. His parents emigrated from Baden-Baden in 1846, and came to Doylestown in 1849, where they have since resided. The subject of our sketch attended the public schools for a number of years, but at an early age was apprenticed to the printing trade. After acquiring the art preservative, he went west and passed nearly four years in Nebraska and Wyoming territory, before he became of age. Returning to Doylestown in 1873 he resumed employment at this trade, and in 1875 became connected with the "Mirror," being advanced to the editorship of the paper in 1880, which position he has since held. In 1879 he was married to Mary E., daughter of William W. and Amanda White, late of Bedminster township, whose forefathers were among the earliest settlers of the county and state. In politics Mr. Constantine is a democrat, and was elected assessor of the borough by a large majority over his republican opponent in 1885, re-elected in 1886, and again in 1887, by a largely increased majority over those of the preceding years. He is a member of a number of secret organizations of the town, and served upward of six years in the National Guards of the state as a member of company G, 16th and 6th regiments, stationed at Doylestown, being rapidly promoted from private to first lieutenant, and only avoided an election to the captaincy of the company by his peremptory refusal to accept the position.
