Battle; A. Warner & Co.; 1887 Solebury Township ANDREW J. ELY farmer, P.O. Solebury, was born in Solebury township, October 6, 1822, and is a son of John H. and Elizabeth (Kiple) Ely. His paternal grandfather was Asher Ely, who married Eleanor Holcomb. Asher was a son of John and Sarah (Simcock) Ely, and John was a son of Joshua Ely, who settled in Solebury in 1738, and was a son of George, and a grandson of Joshua Ely, who came from England in 1685 and settled where Trenton, N. J., now stands. John Ely, father of Andrew J., was twice married. His first wife was Elizabeth Pownal, daughter of Reuben Pownal, of Solebury, by whom he had two children: Reuben P. and Elizabeth (Mrs. Howard Paxson). His second wife was Elizabeth, daughter of Jacob Kiple, by whom he had five children: Andrew J., Matthias C., Albert K., Asher and Margaret (deceased). Andrew J. Ely married Elizabeth, daughter of John and Jane (Dungan) Gill, of Northampton township, by whom he had six children: Sarah A. (deceased), Jefferson, Daniel, David K., Margaret (Mrs. Harry L. Fries), and Henry P. (deceased). Mr. Ely is a prominent farmer, a member of the I. O. O. F. and F. and A. M. Politically he is a democrat.
