Battle; A. Warner & Co.; 1887 Falls Township JESSE K. HARPER retired farmer, P.O. Fallsington, is a son of William and Phoebe (Kelley) Harper, and was born in Fallsington, February 15, 1815. His parents were of Scotch descent and natives of this county. His father was a wheel-wright and afterward a farmer. Of ten children Jesse K. is the only one living. He was next to the youngest child. He obtained his education in the schools of his native county and at the age of 17 began learning the carpenter's trade, which he followed until 1840. He then followed farming until 1844, when he embarked in the dry goods and grocery business at Fallsington. He gave up this business in 1849, and has since devoted his time to farming, in which business he has been successful. He was married in 1840 to Sarah K., daughter of Benjamin and Rachel (Cabeen) Headly; Benjamin was of Scotch descent and his wife was Irish. Their children are: Elizabeth, wife of William Johnson; George W., Maria, Ruth Cooper, Phoebe Anna, wife of Edward Delany; Mary Martha, wife of Edward H. Croasdale; Rachel H., wife of F. B. Croasdale; Elmire H., wife of William H. Atkinson, and Headly B., married to Ida Williamson. In politics Mr. Harper is a republican.
