Battle; A. Warner & Co.; 1887 Bristol Township WILLIAM E. JEFFRIES merchant, P.O. Bristol, was born in Philadelphia July 9, 1820. His parents, Robert and Isabella (Edgar) Jeffries, were of English origin and were born in Pennsylvania. Robert Jeffries was a seafaring man. He had three sons and two daughters. William E., the oldest son, received his education in the public schools of Philadelphia and learned the ropemaker's trade, which he followed for over twenty-five years. He came to Bristol in 1848 and engaged in manufacturing until the breaking out of the war. In 1861 he enlisted under the gallant Colonel Baker. He was afterward transferred to the 69th regiment. Soon after the battle of Petersburg, he was promoted sergeant. In 1866 he was married in Philadelphia to Phebe Haines, who was born in Germany. They have four children: Andrew, Anna, John, and Edward. Mr. Jeffries embarked in his present business in 1883. He is a member of the republican party.
