Battle; A. Warner & Co.; 1887 Middletown Township JOSEPH STACKHOUSE farmer, P.O. Langhorne, was born in Middletown township, September 25, 1816, and is a son of Jonathan and Sarah (Simmons) Stackhouse, natives of Bucks county. His ancestors came from England and settled in this county in 1682. The male members of the family have usually followed farming. Jonathan Stackhouse was reared on a farm, and followed that occupation all his life in Middletown township, where he died in 1868. He had two children, Joseph and Elizabeth, who is married and lives in Langhorne borough. Joseph Stackhouse was reared on a farm, attending school in Attleboro and Abington, subsequently going to boarding school at Westchester. He chose farming as his business, and is now ranked among the wealthiest men in Langhorne, where he now resides. He is a man of marked will power. He has been economical and industrious, and by prudent management and careful investment has succeeded well in life. In 1858 he married Mary Ann, daughter of Samuel and Mary (Croasdale) Brigg, natives of Bucks county and of English descent. Her father was a farmer. She is a member of the Hicksite meeting. Mr. Stackhouse is a republican, but has never held any office except township auditor.
