Edwards, 79, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at Pickering Manor Home. He was born Nov. 7, 1923, in Johnstown. Gomer was a graduate of Clarion University and the University of Pittsburgh. He was a teacher and high school principal in Pennsylvania for 35 years, and also worked in the Polk County School System, Lakeland, Fla., for 10 years. Gomer was a veteran of World War II serving in Europe in the 325th Combat Engineers (100th Division), receiving the Purple Heart. He was awarded the 50-Year Masonic Service Emblem Johnstown-Conemaugh Lodge No. 538 and served as elder in several Presbyterian churches in Pennsylvania and Florida. Gomer volunteered with Boy Scouts of America. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn: his son, Richard N. and daughter-in-law Caroline A., and a grandson, Frederick G. Edwards. A memorial service will be held at the family's convenience. Memorial contributions in Gomer's memory may be made to Boys and Girls Club of America, 1518 Walnut St., Suite 712, Philadelphia, PA 19102.
