(Pittsburgh, Pa.) 1860-1898: March 4, 1863 Died near Fairview, Butler Co., Pa., January 23d, 1863, Mrs. Eleanor Christy, in the 74th year of her age. Mrs. Christy was the daughter of William Cochran and Elizabeth Moore, born in Bucks County, Pa: partly raised in Huntingdon County; and crossed the Allegheny Mountains three times under the age of eighteen. She became a member of the Presbyterian church at eighteen, under the ministry, of Rev. John McFerran, Concord congregation, Butler County, Pa., and united in marriage at the age of twenty-three, to John Christy, who died April 24th, 1828, aged forty years and seven months, and who was followed to the tomb by his companion, seven children, a mother, three sisters, and eight brothers. She conducted a farm until a few years previous to her death. During these last years she lived with her children. She visited one daughter, at a distance of two hundred and fifty miles, stopping there some twelve mouths, when she returned to Butler County, Pa., and went into housekeeping with a single daughter, where she remained until her death, aged 73 years, 8 months and 27 days. She leaves four sons and two daughters; one son in Adams County, Indiana, one in Allegheny County, Pa., and two in Butler; one daughter in Lima, Allen Couty, Ohio, and one in Butler. County, Pa. The youngest daughter and son had gone before her; the latter of which, and youngest of all, was killed by a stick of wood rolling over him; he was aged 20 years, 6 months and 10 days.
