Hardesty, 1898, Volume II, p. 1184-5 ____________________________________________________________ John ANDERSON Was born in Cambria County, PA, Sept 3, 1847 a son of Jonathon and Elizabeth (McDannell) Anderson, the former only living. He was married first, Feb 11, 1869 in Center County, Pa. To Martha J. Thirstin, who was born in Clearfield County in 1853. Her parents, both living are Cyrus and Mathilda (Wolf) Thirstin. One child was born of this union, Laura. He was married secondly to Martha Keeth, a daughter of Jacob and Eliza J. Keeth, the former living. These children were born of this marriage, James, dec., Harvey F., Allie B., William, dec., George, Gertrude, dec., Myrtle, dec., Charles, dec., Virginia, Roxanna, Rachel, , Leta and Nina. Comrade Anderson was engaged in farming when the late war began; he was but 15 years of age when he was enrolled in Company D, 115th Pa V.I., 3rd Brig., 2d Div., 3D A.C., and has an honorable record. May 3, 1863 he was injured by an explosion of canon at Chancellorsville, and was again wounded at Cold Harbor; he was taken to the hospital for latter wound at Fairfax Seminary, and thence to Baltimore Hospital. In 1864 he was taken prisoner at Culpeper C.H. but was immediately retaken by our forces. July, 1863 he was transferred to Bat. K, 4th US Art. He was detailed on special duty and also took conspicuous part in the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Todd's Tavern, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor, Deep Bottom, Petersburg, Hatcher's Run, Mine Run and several others. Upon the close of the war he was honorably discharged June 28, 1865 at Harrisburg, PA. His brother Thomas served in Co A, 61st Pa V.I., was wounded at Fair Oaks and confined in hospital; his father served in the late war, a member of Co D, 78th Pa V.I.; his paternal grandfather served in the War of 1812. Comrade Anderson has been roadmaster 2 years; he is a member of John M. Jones Po. 556, Ebensburg, Pa.; he is farmer by occupation and his post office address is Grip, Pa.
